A few months back, we wrote a blog post on Canadian Dermatologists to follow on Instagram; however, there is so much excellent derm content surfacing social media that one article was not enough! That’s why we’ve put together a list highlighting the Top 10 Canadian Dermatologists to Follow on Twitter. Continue reading to see just who we’ve picked out.
Dr. Abdulhadi Jfri (@AbdulhadiJfri)
To start the top ten list, we have a McGill University Dermatology Resident, Dr. Abdulhadi. He has experience at not only McGill but Harvard, Mount Sinai, and the Canadian Dermatology Association! He has also made over 40 publications at a young age. Using his years of accumulated knowledge, Dr. Abdulhadi shares plenty of content on Hidradenitis Suppurativa, among other dermatological topics. Besides providing such important info on social media, he shows how personable he is with some very relatable lifestyle tweets.

Dr. Béatrice Copps (@drcopps)
Montreal-bred Dr. Béatrice spends her time advocating tweeting about her passions, social justice, dermatology, and her cute puppy Georgia. She is a dermatology resident at the University of Toronto during the day, but online, she is truly a social justice advocate (with 6000 Twitter followers)! To add to her credentials, Dr. Béatrice studied at McGill University, where she wrote two published studies. Don’t miss out on her content.

Dr. Jeff Donovan (@DonovanMedical)
Dr. Jeff is a board-certified dermatologist working out of British Columbia. He began his med journey by studying at the University of Toronto’s Department of Medicine. There, Dr. Jeff gained a diverse skill set in clinical dermatology, trichology, cosmetology, and more. To date, he has written 50 online publications on these fascinating topics! Dr. Jeff now owns Donovan Hair Clinic where specializes in working with challenging cases of hair loss.

Dr. Lisa Iannattone (@lisa_iannattone)
Another excellent dermatologist working out of Montreal is Dr. Lisa Iannattone. Dr. Lisa studied at both Harvard and Université de Montréal. This tri-lingual doc can speak English, French, and Italian too! Not to mention that she has a fierce background of experience with the Canadian Dermatology Association, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Dr. Lisa now works as an Assistant Professor for the Université de Montréal.

Dr. Harry Liu (@harryliumd)
Dr. Harry Liu is currently in the dermatology residency program at the University of British Columbia. Previous to this, he attended the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, and McGill. The University of Alberta selected his research as one of the AEM’s top ten papers in 2018. Not only does Dr. Harry’s knowledge shine through on Twitter, but his passion for global health equity is advocated on his feed as well.

Dr. Mike Kalisiak (@MikeKalisiakMD)
Dr. Kalisiak, associate clinical professor at the University of Alberta. Dr. Mike is a highly active physician with a background in both medicine and business. After receiving his MD from the University of Alberta, Dr. Mike earned his MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Currently, he is a board member of HaloHealth, a network of advisors and investors in healthcare ventures. Aside from all of this, he continues to practice dermatology privately on the side.

Dr. Sandy Skotnicki (@DrSkotnicki)
Board Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Skotnicki, specializes in skin allergies, among other dermatological concerns. She also works as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. In addition to this busy schedule, she has made time to write her best-seller, Beyond Soap, where she uncovers the cause of many skin irritations and provides guidance on how to recover one’s skin microbiome. Dr. Skotnicki’s Twitter feed is full of such insight and practical tips!

Dr. Anatoli Freiman (@AnatoliFreiman)
Despite being a busy dad of 4, a runner, swimmer, dermatologist and medical director of the Toronto Dermatology Center, Dr. Anatoli Freiman somehow still manages to keep up on Twitter and be an active member of The Rounds community by having hosted multiple dermatology events! Follow Dr. Freiman for helpful information such as summer skincare tips like picking out sunscreen or dealing with common conditions like rosacea.

Dr. Sabrina Nurmohamed (@snurmoh)
Dr. Sabrina had experience at three universities thus far, starting at the University of Toronto, Western University and most recently, the University of Calgary. Dr. Sabrina finished her residency at the University of Calgary in September of 2020 and is now working as a dermatologist full-time at West Dermatology. We are obsessing over her Twitter account, so be sure to follow. Not only does she tweet relatable content, but she is also a social justice advocate and posts helpful dermatology content.

Dr. Harvey Lui (@HarveyLui)
For over 20 years, Dr. Lui has been the medical director of The Skin Care Centre, the Lions Laser Skin Centre, and the Psoriasis & Phototherapy Clinic. Dr. Lui is also Department Head of Dermatology Science at the University of British Columbia and a member of the American Dermatology Board, the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery, a staff member of the BC Cancer Agency and the BV Children’s Hospital. This award-winning physician won the University of Killam Prize for the quality of his work.

Dr. Jessica Nertomb (@MsJessMonk)
It can be challenging to get the right kind of information and medical assistance when you have a disability, such as being deaf. However, physicians such as Dr. Jessica help to break those barriers. Dr. Jessica is a family doctor and dermatology resident out of Vancouver, BC. There she provides her patients with up-to-date information and translation services in ASL.

Dr. Feras Ghazawi is a resident dermatologist and Ph.D. researcher working in Ottawa. He attended both the University of Ottawa and McGill, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, Master of Science degree, Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology, and an MD. With this experience, he has been able to write over 130 publications online. Dr. Feras updates his Twitter with resourceful information about oncology, dermatology, and immunology.
